Multilingual and multicultural by birth, as much from the developing world
as from the industrialized world, my attention has always been turned
toward the different ways of expressing reality, the different ways in
which this same reality is conditioned by the language and the culture that
describe it, and the ensuing misunderstandings.
My concern became very quickly, within the limits of my modest means, that
of helping people, if not to understand, at least to hear other people.
Professionally, this concern took unsurprisingly the path of translation
(with a strong component in the field of development), but also of
journalism (photo, printed press, radio), and today, of mediation on
international electronic forums.
On this forum, I provide machine translations of the messages. For reasons
of time, I only edit them to correct mistranslations. The result remains
sufficiently mediocre so that the reader, at least I hope so, is led to
wondering: But what does this really mean?
Sometimes, I will take the liberty to signal on the forum what seems to me
could be a source of cultural misunderstanding, or non-understanding.
